How to Spot a Phishing Email in Under 30 Seconds

4 May, 2025Blogs

Phishing emails remain one of the most effective tools for cybercriminals. They impersonate trusted organizations to steal passwords, credit card info, or install malware.

Here’s how to quickly spot a phishing attempt:

✅ Check the Email Address

Is it from support@amaz0n.com instead of amazon.com? Small changes are common.

✅ Watch for Urgency or Fear Tactics

Phrases like “Account suspended!” or “Act immediately!” are designed to provoke panic and rushed decisions.

✅ Hover Over Links

Don’t click until you’ve hovered over the link and confirmed the destination. If it doesn’t match the brand or looks suspicious, don’t click.

✅ Look for Bad Grammar and Odd Phrasing

Official companies rarely send error-filled emails. Inconsistencies in language are a big red flag.

✅ Be Wary of Unexpected Attachments

If you weren’t expecting a PDF or ZIP file from your bank, don’t open it.

Pro Tip: When in doubt, don’t click. Go directly to the official website or contact the company directly.
